Obituary

Walter (Waldo) Ruby Newcomb, Jr. was born on June 16th, 1958 to Walter and Dorothy Newcomb in Chicago, IL. He left this earth on March 15th, 2023 at 11:54 p.m. He had one brother, Dwight Newcomb and one sister, Diane Hill. All precede him in death.

Walt’s friends became his family and they will truly miss him. They include: Brian (Bobbi) Cosat, Jeff English, Chad (Nikki) Powell, Eric A. Williams, and “the sisters” Jenna Maynard, Sherry Williamson, Shawnee Maynard, and Sheila Miabella. He also had 2 godchildren who love him very much they are: Precious Sherese Davis and Jenesis Maynard.

Walt graduated from Georgetown High School and served 2 years with the Army reserves. He worked as a compounder for many years and also drove a semi.

Walt loved life and lived his life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. He loved to travel and to try many different foods. He would drive to Chicago just for his favorite pizza or an Italian beef sandwich or attend any cookout he was invited to. He was a sports fanatic who watched many different sports, but the Chicago Cubs and the New England Patriots were his favorite(he even liked Tom Brady). He was very competitive with his friends when it came to games. Whether it was dice, cards, or chess he would playfully harass you the entire game, especially if he was winning! He was very sociable and never met a stranger. He was friends with all different generations and could fit in anywhere. He is considered by many to be an icon in Georgetown. He was the true “Where’s Waldo”, no matter where he was he would be there if you needed help. Whether it was traveling to Indianapolis to help with youth fundraisers or simply giving you a ride. Walt loved to tell stories and did not like to be proven wrong, that’s why he didn’t like google! Walt also liked listening to all different genres of music. He would cruise around for hours to listen to music and loved attending concerts with friends. He also loved to go to the Georgetown Dam fishing and would often be there for hours. He had a gentle soul and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Walt was truly one of a kind and will be missed by many.

Walt was an organ donor and Gift of Hope was able to use his liver and lungs to help other people. Per Walt’s wishes he will be cremated by Watson Cremation Services. There will be a celebration of life held at the Georgetown American Legion on April 1st starting at 2 p.m.
