Roberta Christine Craycraft Montgomery
Roberta Christine Craycraft Montgomery, 70, of Georgetown, Illinois passed away on March 5, 2025 at her sister’s home in Georgetown, Illinois.
Chris was born to the late C.M. (Melvin) and Rosemond Craycraft on April 27, 1954, in Danville, Illinois. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alva H. Montgomery, Jr. and her daughter, Megan Elizabeth Montgomery.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Haden (Gabi) Montgomery and children Adam and Asher Montgomery and Lilly Ingold of Danville, Illinois and Matthew Gregory (Amanda) Montgomery and children Natalie, Andrew, Lucas, Hannah, and Titus Montgomery of Junction City, Kansas. She is also survived by two sisters, Linda Allaway and Patricia Fegett both of Georgetown, Illinois.
Chris was a graduate of Georgetown High School in 1972. She received her associate's degree in legal Secretary from Lockyear College of Business in Evansville, Indiana in 1974. She worked as a legal secretary for Charles C. Hall, Attorney at Law, Danville, Illinois and with Glenna J. Weith, Attorney at Law, Champaign, Illinois prior to retirement.
Chris was an enthusiastic supporter of the University of Southern Illinois women’s basketball team. She enjoyed going to concerts and listening to music by Mark Preston and The Lettermen. She was also instrumental in working with the Danville IL Area Toys for Tots Campaign.
Chris had a fraternal bond to the Masonic bodies that showed through her service and family. Chris spent her teenage years as a member of the Georgetown #107 International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She was a Past Worthy Advisor and Past Grand Religion as a state officer then in her adult life she served in many capacities including as Mother Advisor for many years in Champaign #21, served on the Advisory Boards for both Champaign and Georgetown, and Past Grand Deputy for District 6. Chris was a 52-year member of Order of the Eastern Star initially in Georgetown Chapter #305, then transferred to Hope Chapter #104 for many years and currently a member of Illini Chapter #813, she was a Past Worthy Matron, Grand Marshall of Illinois in 2018, and served on the Board of Grand Examiners in 2019.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon at the Georgetown Cemetery on March 11, 2025 officiated by Jeanne Puckett. An Eastern Star Service will be conducted at the service. Watson Cremation and Funeral Services is in charge of the services and arrangements.
Following the services a light lunch will be held at the Masonic Temple, 11 W. West Street in Georgetown Illinois for fellowship.
