Norma Jean Freed Rich, 85, passed away in her sleep on February 6, 2024.
Norma was born on July 6, 1938 to Leo and Julia Urbanski in Tilton, Illinois. She had three children, Linda (Steve) Bloomfield of Perrysville, Indiana, Buddy (Dee) Freed of Danville, Illinois, and Brenda (Terry) Hollingsworth of Chrisman, Illinois, all of whom survive. She was blessed with seven grandchildren all of whom survive: Steve (Amanda Douglas) Bloomfield of Dana, Indiana, Samantha (Wade) Rennaker of Covington, Indiana, Cole Freed of Danville, Illinois, Taylor Freed of Danville, Illinois, Katie (Rob) Watters of Paris, Illinois, Kayla Hollingsworth of Oakwood, Illinois, and Kade Hollingsworth of Brownsburg, Indiana. She is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren, Briar Bloomfield, Berlin Bloomfield, Riley Corray, Haley Corray, Shelby Rennaker, Wesley Rennaker, Emily Dong, Holden Watters, Zoey Watters, Hendrix Watters, Ruxin Watters, and Jett Watters, and one great-great-grandchild Coleman Watters. Finally, she is survived by her older sister Marie Lazzell and her skittish cat Joey.
She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Julia Urbanski, her first husband and father of her children Melvin Freed, her second husband Darrell Rich, whom she married in 1991, her brothers Art, Stanley, Bob, Raymond, and Ralph Urbanski, one sister Doris Hunt, and her favorite cat Fred.
Norma Jean will be remembered for being a die-hard NASCAR and Earnhardt enthusiast, a Chicago Cubs devotee, an avid reader, a dedicated mushroom hunter, a listening ear to anyone without judgement, a lover of receiving gifts, a delicious cook, a best friend to her family, the world’s greatest mom and grandma, and the epitome of what it meant to be the glue of the family. She will be missed more than words can describe by so many people.
A graveside service with immediate family is set for Monday, February 12th, at 1:00 P.M. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Danville, Illinois. A dinner will be provided afterwards at her son Buddy’s home where stories of Norma's extraordinary life will continue to be shared and celebrated.
