Larry Ray Lewis Obituary

Obituary for Larry Ray Lewis (Rufus)

Larry Ray Lewis, affectionately known as Rufus, was born on December 13, 1951, in Danville, Illinois. He peacefully departed this life on May 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Larry proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He received an honorable discharge and was a disabled veteran.  He was a generous soul, always willing to lend a helping hand or share his last dollar with those in need. His deep love for family and friends was evident in everything he did.

A man of many passions, Larry found joy in gardening, playing softball, fishing and hunting mushrooms. When he was younger, he loved playing in the woods at Granny and Grandpa Hoskins's house and spending time with aunts, uncle and cousins.  He dedicated many years of his life as a farmhand, where he cherished the simple pleasures of the land. Larry spent countless hours with his dear friends Karla and Kirk Woodyard, Scott Goins, Jerry Lewis, and his cousin Jerome, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Larry is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Ray Lewis, his mother, Barbara Ann (Hoskins) Lewis, and his sister, Carla Faye (Lewis) Nesbitt. He is survived by his loving sisters, Debbie (Hoskins) Knight and Balinda (Lewis) Barney and her husband Bill Barney, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his special friend, Shannon.

Larry will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Life will be held at Indianola United Methodist Church immediately following the graveside service.
