John Stephen (Steve) Land, 82, of Westville, Illinois formerly of Ridge Farm, Illinois, passed away on June 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Steve was born October 24, 1941, in Kendallville, Indiana, the son of the late John and Lena Doris (Anderson) Land.

Mr. Land graduated from Ridge Farm High School in 1959 and continued his education at the University of Illinois and Southern Illinois University studying agriculture. Steve was active in both 4H and FFA as well as track and field during his high school years. He held the title of the fastest 440 in Vermilion Co. during his tenure with the track team. Steve developed a deep connection with livestock shows alongside his brother and father at county and state fairs all over the United States. Steve's hobbies included woodworking as well as collecting and restoring both antique Kentucky rifles and antique furniture. He also had a love for horse racing and never missed watching the Kentucky Derby. Steve was very passionate about the abundant farm ground surrounding Ridge Farm. His passion and diligence created a lasting farm legacy for future generations.

Steve married Mary Lee on August 12, 1983. He is survived by: his wife, Mary Lee Land; his children, Julie (Tim) Dawson, Brad Land; his stepdaughter, Natalie (Bill) Cottrell; his grandchildren, Lacee (Michael Ehrich) Cottrell, Kathryn (Aaron) Cowgill, Kelli Dawson, Will (Maddie Cordes) Cottrell; his great-grandchildren, Halston and Rowdy Cottrell, Hayden and Kyler Ehrich; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn (Howard) Robinson and his brother, Richard Land.

Steve's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness knew no bounds, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. The family would like to thank all the staff at Hawthorne Inn in Danville, Illinois for the wonderful care he received.

Please join the family as we celebrate Steve’s life at the Vermilion Grove Friends Church in Vermilion Grove, Illinois Thursday, June 13th from 4 pm to 6 pm. Steve Pearson will officiate a service after the celebration at 6 pm.  Memorial donations may be given in his name to a charity of the donor's choice.
