John Joseph Griffis

John Joseph Griffis of Gessie, IN passed away at ? on September 10,2021 at OSF Hospital in Danville. John was born May 27, 1952 to Mark and Lois Griffis. He was raised by his aunt and uncle Norman and Mary Barr.

John graduated from North Vermilion High School in 1970 and worked for Ameren Electric as a lineman for 42 Years. He retired in 2012.

John married Mary McHenry on July 8, 1977. They had two sons, Adam (Kari) Griffis of Overland Park, KS and Matthew (Kassi) Griffis of Danville, Il and four grand-daughters: Matilyn, Julia, Olivia and Stella. 

He loved his family and friends, especially his grand-daughters. He also loved having coffee with friends, anything sweet, mushroom hunting and coin collecting. His sense of humor was one of a kind.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Thomas Griffis, David Griffis, Dick Barr & Bob Barr and his sisters: Susie, Gail, Joellen & Grace. John is Survived by his children and brothers Jim(Audrey) Griffis of Oakwood, Il and Donald Barr of Danville, Il.

John will be buried at Eugene Cemetery alongside his family. 

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support.
