James (Jay) Richard Edwards (Age 74) Was sent to his Heavenly home on August 7, 2022. Jay was born on February 8, 1948 in Danville Illinois to the late James J. and Marie Edwards and he was raised in Hoopeston Illinois. He graduated in 1966 from Hoopeston High School. He served his nation by entering into the Navy in 1967 and proudly served on the USS Oklahoma off the coast of Vietnam. As a seaman he was a qualified boat coxswain and the main burton wench operator. He was honorably discharged on November 6, 1972. Jay retired from the Danville Post Office after working there 33 years. While working at the Post Office he started his own BBQ business called JBQ’s and made his customers very happy with his ribs, brisket, various smoked meats and his signature sauce from his home in rural Williamsport Indiana. He married the love of his life Patti (Harrison) Edwards on August 31, 1974 at Marshfield Presbyterian Church in Marshfield Indiana. She survives along with his daughter Tina (Jeff) Keller of Covington Indiana. Three Grandsons; Kaleb Carwile, Dakota Keller and Zach Keller. Also surviving is one brother Ronnie (Sherry) Edwards of Danville Illinois. Three sisters Shirley Stebbins of Fairmount Illinois, Janice Moore of Bolder Colorado and Lori (Jim) McBurney of Metamora Illinois. He also left behind many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins that he loved. Jay loved the Lord, his family and the game of golf. Jay also loved his pets and watching the wildlife near his home and feeding the birds. Jay will be laid for his eternal rest at the Danville National Cemetery located on the VA grounds in Danville Illinois. There will be a graveside service held on Monday August 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM Illinois (Central) Time. All family and friends are welcome to attend. The family would like to request in lieu of flowers they ask you to donate to the American Cancer Society or a local animal shelter. The family would also like to extend the heartfelt gratitude to the Elara Care Hospice Staff of Lafayette Indiana for the wonderful care and assistance.
