Eldon Lou Hayn, 44, of Newtown, Illinois, was taken from us way too soon, on Monday, February 3, 2025, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home, with his wife Kristen and son Bo Bo by his side. 

Eldon was born on June 21, 1980, in Urbana, Illinois, to Jim and Sharon (Filpatrick) Hayn. He grew up in Homer, Illinois and graduated from Heritage High School. In 2004, he moved to Newtown, where he met his woman, Kristen (Covington) and they have been inseparable ever since. They were married in 2005 at Kennekuk County Park. In addition to Kristen and Bo, he is survived by two bonus kids, Christopher "Trish" Johnson, and Abby "Hoosier" Johnson, both of Springfield, Illinois. Also surviving are his parents, Jim Hayn of Oakwood, Sharon Hayn of Homer, mother-in-law (Mamaw) Connie Covington, of Oakwood, sisters-in-law Leslie (Mike) Pouilliard of Newtown, and Lori (Rick) Lane of Muncie, brother-in-law John Covington of Dana, Indiana, and last but definitely not least, grandson Owen Johnson of Springfield, Illinois. 

Eldon was a member of the Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 143, working as a union concrete finisher for many years. In 2015, he started his own business, Hayn Concrete, which he very successfully owned and operated until 2022, when his illness prevented him from working. 

Eldon was a very simple man. He worked hard, he loved his family, and he loved to fish, hunt, and to look for mushrooms every spring. He loved to joke around with everyone he met, and he could always put a smile on your face. He was just simply a good guy, and he will be missed terribly. 

Per his wishes, he will be cremated. A big thank you to Brad at Watson Cremation Services for taking such good care of him. His ashes will be scattered on our land at our forever home in Murray, Kentucky, and in Kentucky Lake, two of his favorite places to be. There will be no visitation, this obituary is probably more than he would have wanted, but there will be a celebration of life planned for a later date, when the weather is warmer and something can be held outdoors, and we can all share our memories of Eldon. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the OSF Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Center in Danville, Illinois. 

I would like to thank Dr. Labayog and his entire staff at the Cancer Center for taking such good care of us the last two and a half years, they were like a second family to us. And also, a big thank you to the nurses and staff at Carle Hospice and Carle Home Infusion, for helping us get through the last month, and allowing us to remain at home and keep Eldon comfortable.
