Donald Black Obituary

Donald J. Black, 65 of Georgetown, Illinois passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at his home in Georgetown. He was surrounded by his sisters and Sydnee, his special niece who all loved him to the moon and back. Born in Danville, Illinois on May 31, 1958, Don was the son of James H. and Shirley (Wilson) Black, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death are his grandparents, brother-in-law, Glen Cook, and niece, Macey Dokey. He is survived by his daughter, Emileigh Pigg of Georgetown, Illinois and his son, Aaron Black of Mattoon, Illinois. Also surviving are his sisters; Suzie (Lawrence) Brown of League City, TX, Jaime (Mike) Kanger of Indianola, Amy Cook (Wendell Hawley) of Georgetown, and Missy (Mike) Dokey of Indianola. Don is also survived by his 6 grandchildren; Bryson, Alexis, Drake and Rylan Pigg of Georgetown, Briggs and Colt Black of Mattoon, and several nieces and nephews. Don graduated from Georgetown High School in 1976. His passion was playing football which played all 4 years. According to his teammate, Spunky Brooks, he was a “beast of a middle linebacker and a real heavy hitter”! He earned the nickname, “The Flying Boogie” during an intense Georgetown vs. Schlarman game. Don spent the majority of his work life in Law Enforcement, working at the Danville Correctional Facility, Georgetown Police Department, and the White House, Tennessee Police Department. He was also a volunteer fireman in Georgetown. Don and his sense of humor will be missed by many, including his dear friends; Jeff West, Stevie Barnes (who preceded him in death), Rick Wellnitz, and Patrick Brady. We would like to send a heartfelt thanks to Don’s Hospice Nurse, Tanya from Carle Hospice. Her compassion and caring ways, not only for Don, but the entire family will never be forgotten. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at the Georgetown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carle Hospice at 4116 Fieldstone Road, Champaign, Illinois 61822.
