Dale Ray Richter, 78 of Sidell, passed away at 11:30 p.m. on July 3, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, after a battle with cancer.
Dale was born on May 28, 1946, in Danville to Roy Arnold Richter and Mary Louise (Rosnett) Richter. Dale graduated from Jamaica High School in 1964. He then served two years in the United States Army. He retired from General Motors in January of 1992.
Throughout the years, Dale had many hobbies and collections. When he was 11 years old, he, his father and brother started hunting Indian artifacts and fossils. He wrote several articles that have been published in various artifact books.
Dale is survived by his wife, Barbara (Delbridge); two sisters, Carol Geyer of Crossville, Tenn., Bonnie Andrews of Danville; one brother, Charles Steven (Joyce) Richter of Catlin; one daughter Tina (Michael) Karuzis of Catlin; one son, Bryson Richter of Terre Haute, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Michelle Delbridge of Sidell and one stepson, Chad (Melissa) Delbridge of Trafalgar Ind.; eight grandchildren, Abigail (Blake) Pate of Westville, Dale Lee Richter of Fairmount, Tristan Karuzis, Trevor Karuzis and Morgan Karuzis of Catlin; Joseph Delbridge, Chloe Delbridge and Shelby Delbridge of Trafalgar, Ind.; one great-grandson Cohen Ray Pate of Westville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Debra Twardzik and one daughter, Laurie Richter.
There will be a private family service July 12. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery, Fairmount.
